Here I'm posting synopses and snippets from what I'm writing and have written. Jumping genre boundaries and playing fast and loose with time, I believe in the power of fiction to tell the truth. Why don't you come with me through the looking glass?
“Alice laughed. ‘There’s no use trying,’ she said: ‘one can’t believe impossible things.’
‘I daresay you haven’t had much practice,’ said the Queen."
I've always loved transgressing genre boundaries, both as a writer and a reader. My novels play the field, from portraits of the artist as a bright young thing, through mysteries and gothic to YA dystopian adventure. Over the coming weeks, I'm going to post synopses and snippets of them all.
Each week this fall, I'm going to post a peek at one of my novels, starting with a keyhole into my latest manuscript, and going in reverse chronology back to my historical romance Comfort and Despair.
I love it when people tell me I've written a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, but my brilliant writer friends have more compelling things to say about editing and shaping, and I'm going to share their critiques.
There are the notebooks where I write out the first good draft of my work in progress. And then there are the journals, where I write whatever comes into my head, reader's responses, notes of conversations (the ones I'm officially part of, the ones I'm snooping on), dreams. Do you keep a journal? What's it like?
I'd love to know what you're reading and writing, and welcome any questions you might have about my process or my projects.
Whodunit, intellectual historical, Universal Studio monster movie, a tale of archaeologist adventurers. I’m clearly not the only one longing for the genre to rise from its sarcophagus.
